Class Descriptions

Yoga Basics

This class offers basic instruction of yoga practice, an introduction to correct breathing and postures (asanas) as well as a gentle flow to accustom yourself to the practice and become familiar with your body's needs and abilities. This class will teach the fundamentals of Hatha yoga to beginning students.

Yoga +

This all levels class is open for all students and will teach beyond the physical practice of yoga. Classes will start with a 15-30 minute lecture, reading, or discussion, which will focus on bring consciousness, self improvement, or ways to relate the mental and physical practice of yoga to ones everyday life. Following the teachings, students will be guided into a brief meditation, and a physical practice will then start. The physical practice can vary based on the teachings from the beginning of class. Please take note that every class may be different both in teachings and in the physical practices. Regular practitioners will be enlightened with a wider picture of what yoga is all about.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is the general physical practice of yoga that works to achieve balance between body and mind, as well as attempts to free the more subtle spiritual elements of the mind through physical poses or Asanas. Classes may consist of some vinyasa flow, alignment work, yin stretching, and/or other physical practices of yoga.

Vinyasa Heat +

Vinyasa is type of Hatha yoga, where the asanas (postures) continuously flow from one to the next, synchronized to the breathing techniques. This style is sometimes also called flow yoga, because of the smooth way that the poses run together. The breath becomes an important component because the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. This class works to achieve balance between body and mind. Classes will start with a 15-30 minute lecture, reading, or discussion, which will focus on bring consciousness, self improvement, or ways to relate the mental and physical practice of yoga to ones everyday life. The room temperature will between 82 -90 degrees. The heat loosens up muscles and tendons, allowing deeper, longer, more effective stretching in a safe environment. We recommend bringing an extra change of clothes (especially in the winter) and a towel to use during the practice as needed.

Extra Gentle Yoga

A slower paced yoga class where you can take more time to savor the poses. We begin in relaxation pose and then move into gentle stretching while still on our backs. Each class may focus on a different theme or area of the body, but all parts of the body are stretched and strengthened. Recommended for beginners and those recovering from injuries.

Yin Yoga

This class targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, as well as the joints of the spine, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. With its slow, passive, meditative approach, this cooling practice not only promotes flexibility, it also replenishes synovial fluid surrounding the joints, increases range of motion, and creates space both within the body and the mind, preparing it for meditation. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles.

Suitable for students of all levels.

Power Yoga

Power yoga is rigorous yoga class with demanding strength postures that will have you moving, breathing and sweating. True to its name, power yoga focuses on building and engaging your core strength to support you in more advanced postures. Set to energizing music in a heated, climate-controlled room, it will strengthen, balance, detoxify and exhilarate the body and mind.

Beginner Yoga Series

A 4 week session designed to give specific information and personal attention to the beginner yoga student. Each week teaches a different aspect of the Yoga practice, from correct breathing techniques to the different asanas (postures) and even how they are put together in the various Sun Salutations flow. At the end of the 4 week session students will feel prepared to head into a regular yoga class with a solid block of knowledge behind them and with the ability to "take it to their own level" without worry of getting lost.
