Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the benefits of practicing Yoga?
The physical benefits of Yoga are many. It increases strength, vitality, flexibility and agility. It also eases digestion, while improving the nervous system and blood circulation. A more subtle benefit to Yoga is the development of self-awareness. Through practice, Yoga offers a more creative ability to understand ourselves. This awareness gives us the ability to handle stress and have clearer, calmer thoughts. Yoga improves our attitude and emotional well-being. The ultimate goal is to raise our consciousness, as well as our spirits!
What if I have never taken Yoga/Bellydance before? What classes are good for me?
All Level 1 Yoga and Beginner Bellydance classes are good for those who have never taken a class before as well as Bellydance Fitness and the Gentle Yoga classes. In any class, if you are a beginner or have never tried yoga before you can tell the instructor and they will make note to keep an eye on you if you need help.

The thing you should always remember is that you are doing your own practice. In the Yoga classes if a move is too hard for you or if something hurts then don't do it. "If it hurts, you're doing it wrong." Yoga is not meant to hurt. If it hurts, ask the instructor to help fix your alignment. If it is a movement that your body does not allow you to do then ask for a variation or sit back for a moment until the class moves to the next pose you can do.
What does Level 1, 2 & 3 mean for Yoga classes on the Schedule?
Level 1 Yoga classes are Beginner classes
Level 2 Yoga classes are Beginner to Intermediate classes
Level 3 Yoga classes are Intermediate to Advanced classes
Level 1, 2 & 3 classes are open to people of all Levels

No matter what class you attend, the most important thing to remember is not to let your ego get to you. If your practice is still at the beginning level of an asana then that is where you are meant to be at this point in time.
I’m not flexible. Can I do Yoga?
Yes! You are the perfect candidate for Yoga. Many people think that they need to be flexible before they begin Yoga. Come as you are and you will find that a Yoga practice will help you become more and more flexible.
What do I wear to a class and what do I bring?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for stretching and movement. Also, even in the winter you might want to wear a tank top with a light layer on top. It can get warm in the Yoga and Bellydance rooms and we don't want you to be uncomfortable. No footwear is required since we do not wear shoes in the studios (except for the Hip Hop class where we request that you bring clean sneakers.)

For Yoga classes, bring a mat and any props you may have. You if you do not have any we have supplies that you can borrow.

In the Bellydance classes, if you have a hip scarf please bring it and any other props you may need for your particular class (like zills for a zills class)

Also, you can bring water but if you forget it we sell water in the center for $1 a bottle.
How many times per week should I practice?
Start with two times per week. Initially, do what you can and refuse to let time constraints become an obstacle. You’ll find that after a while, your desire to practice will increase naturally and you’ll end up doing more and more.
Can I eat before class?
Try not to eat anything heavy right before class. A good rule of thumb is two hours before class. It is recommended that you practice on an empty stomach. A full stomach may cause discomfort and distract you from your practice.
How much are classes?
Classes are $15 to drop in unless it is stated otherwise. You are also welcome to take advantage of our Unlimited packages which start at $69 a month.
Are classes drop in or do I have to register?
All classes are drop in. It is not mandatory for you to become a member to come to our Center and you do not have to call in to reserve a spot for a class. We just ask you to be on time for class and if you are new to our center please come a few minutes early to fill out our short Newcomer Form.

Some of our classes do get a bit big from time to time so, if possible, get here early.
What does "Donation Only" mean?
A donation only class is a class where you pay what you can. These classes are designed so that anyone can afford to take Yoga.
What if I don’t want to do yoga/bellydance in a group setting?
We do encourage our students not to feel self conscious when coming to classes. We are all at different levels whether we are doing Bellydance, Yoga or both. New students walk into the center every day and there are also people who have been coming here for years. That is why we emphasize that you are doing your own personal practice. No one will judge you and everyone has been through the beginning of the learning process before. We know exactly what you are going through because we have been there.

We also understand that it still can be intimidating and you might want to get a foothold before jumping into the water. It also helps to learn movements and terms before coming to a class. Therefore, we offer private classes.
To book a private class call us at 631-262-9642.
Where are you located?
We are located at 24 Vernon Valley Rd in East Northport. We are located right at the fork where Larkfield Rd. turns into Vernon Valley and Laurel Rd.

You can park on the street (Don’t be discouraged by the street signs saying one hour parking, they let you stay longer!) or turn at the light at the corner (Bellrose Avenue) to park behind the building.

If you need help getting here, and online maps are confusing for you, please don’t hesitate to call 631-262-9642.
